Personality
My main passions at this stage in my life primarily revolve around the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Like many folk, my weekdays are somewhat routine/comfortable. But come the weekends, whether winter or summer, I'm looking forward to a Saturday and/or Sunday spent in the mountains. I hike with the Colorado Mountain Club (cmc.org) and am most fond of the big mountain summits.

In the winter, this love is expressed primarily via snowshoeing. Also, I am working at my ski skills, with the goal to be proficient at backcountry skiing.

Summer is my favorite time of the year, though, and summer is too dang short in the Colorado mountains. I finished the 14'ers (the 54 highest peaks in Colorado, all above 14000 ft in elevation) in 2006. I am currently whittling away at the Centennials (the highest 100 peaks in Colorado.) I enjoy this activity most when it includes a warm night or two in a tent at about 12000 feet, with the stars thick in the sky. Competing with my summer-time hikes is the mountainbiking. There is nothing I have found that gets the heart working quite like mountain biking. And like the summer-time hikes, moving down a dirt trail with the smell of pine in the air is exhilirating.

I was a passionate martial artist through the 80's and 90's. I spent 5 weeks in China with a large contingent of martial art friends in '94, touring around southeast, south-central China, putting on demonstrations at various cities. Although I don't practice nearly as much, I am still involved in tai chi and meditation, and this is where I find my center.

I am an avid reader and seldom without a book since I was... 7? It used to be all leisurely fiction, but I now throw in a more "substantive" book on occasion. As a "left-brainer" (and Mechanical Engineer), I love reading about physics, science and technology. I am brimming with optimism about humankind's future, given the pace of technology. (I am going to need those bionic knees in about a decade, so hurry up!)

I am a movie buff. Joel and Ethan Coen are geniuses. "Raising Arizona" is the funniest thing ever created. I've lost interest in much of the typical Hollywood drivel, and love to see independent and foreign films. That shared experience, reacting together with a large group of folk, is just wonderful.

I love to go downtown, but do so only rarely. I am an NBA fan, and too often feel the pain at a Denver Nugget loss. I thoroughly enjoy the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, and the theater. The annual, late summer "concert and a movie" at Red Rocks amphitheater can be awesome. Finally, I love the intimacy of a candlelit dinner.

I was "raised" on Led Zeppelin, but came to enjoy contemporary Jazz. Classical, ala Beethoven, helped me get through late night college studies, and I REALLY love the sound of Dido. But when I am in the car alone, I usually always have National Public Radio (NPR) news programming on. I download NPR podcasts, making me an Ipod nerd and an NPR nut.

I look forward to travel, but I prefer it to be adventure oriented. I'd be hard pressed to visit the Louvre. Trekking in New Zealand? I'm there. The Haute Route between Chamonix and Zermatt. Can't wait. Scuba diving? I love the ocean and the warmth, and hope to experience lots of both.

I have had (and am having) a lot of fun in my life, and things are going quite well for me. But there's something missing right now, and it's not a small piece. I am hopeful that this service will help me find that woman with whom I can share this blessed life.
