I am 51 years old and of Caucasian/Hispanic ethnicity. My grandparents on my dad’s side were Spanish and Mexican. My grandfather came up to the US in the ‘20’s as an immigrant worker who decided to get his citizenship and stay here. My grandmother’s family came to the US when Franco took over in Spain; something about him killing off all of those of royal blood. Her father was a count or something and they were forced to flee for their lives.
My mother’s people came from Irish, Scottish and Native American stock. They were poor farmers from the rural areas of Mississippi and the Carolinas: a very proud people who thrive on their Southern heritage.
I have 2 kids, a 22 year old son who lives and works in College Station and my 20 year old daughter and her family who live with me. She made me a grandpa at way too young an age, 15. But I am proud of the tenacity she has shown in trying to make something of herself rather then just sitting home and waiting for someone else to pay for everything. She went on to finish high school and as I said is on track to eventually earn her physician’s assistant degree and may even pursue a medical degree at a later date.
My grandsons are 4 and 2 year old and are the sparkle in my eye. Many people don’t understand why I don’t make my daughter and her family find their own house. Well let me tell you, there is nothing that will make a horrible day brighten up any faster then walking in the door and having those two fight over your attention; and all they ask is that you get down on the floor and share their world for a while.
As far as work goes, I am the CFO for a non-profit quasi-governmental agency in the Bryan/College Station area.
As far as education goes, I received my bachelors in Accounting/Finance from Stephen F. Austin SU in Nacogdoches in 1979 and a masters from Texas A & M a few years later.
My main hobby is related to my passion for the hunting and shooting sports. I have been a writer for the hunting/shooting/camping/rv-atv/fishing magazines for around 25 years now. During that time I have also become involved in helping to film TV shows related to these activities. Growing up I could only dream of traveling to exotic places to hunt and fish. So I decided to find a way to make my hobbies pay for themselves; thus I became involved as a writer.
As an extension of my outdoor and writing interests I have been involved in hosting programs that introduced youngsters and women to the shooting and hunting sports. For example I am currently on the board of an organization that provides dream hunts for terminally ill youngsters in Texas. I have also worked with the womens shooting group the Divas in the past.
Well, this is a lot for you to consider and hopefully it doesn’t scare you off. If it does then the good Lord didn’t mean for us to meet anyway, and if it doesn’t then I look forward to your response.
