Cool, now that you shared where you think it goes let me show you where most of our spending ACTUALLY goes. This seems to be in contrast to what most believe, so I think it's worth a share! Here, take a look!

The military, and Social Security are the biggest expenditures. You can't reduce SS, as people paid into it for years / decades on the promise that they would get money back when they retired, or became disabled. The government has a contractual obligation to make good on those promises. The military is already bigger / better equipped, and with more Generals, than it had in all of World War Two, so it does not need anything more / newer for awhile. Beyond that, Corporate Welfare goodies-Oil Depletion Allowances, etc-given to the rich can be reduced. THEY won't start a war if deprived. The worst the rich will do-if they get upset enough-is leave the country. Their money is already out of the country-in Swiss, Cayman Island, etc, banks-so they may as well go join it. If you piss off the poor badly enough, they will rise up, and kill everyone who is richer than they are.

Every pie chart I have ever seen.on this subject has Social Security and other entitlement programs vastly dwarfing military expenditures. OP might be out-and-out lying here.

Hey OP, in the U.S., Federal spending is divided into three groups;

a. Discretionary
b. Mandatory
c. Interest on debt

Question; Where's b. and c.?

The House last week passed, with my support, the annual defense authorization bill, which provides for our national defense by denying proposed troop reductions and increasing Marine and Air Force personnel, authorizing funding for weapons systems, and providing for necessary training to maintain the United States military as the premiere fighting force in the world.

Providing our troops with the tools and training they need to defend our shores is essential, especially during turbulent times.

In addition, the bill authorizes the largest pay raise for our military in 6 years! Active-duty troops and their families have been asked to sacrifice greatly as our nation has fought against terrorism, and this pay raise is well-deserved.
Sincerely,

Congressman Ron DeSantis

No matter what pie chart you're looking at it still doesn't change the fact
that we outspend every country combined 10 times over in military spending.

We're not broke.
We're being robbed by the military industrial complex.

Obama called GW "unpatriotic" for increasing the debt $5 trillion ... then he increased it himself by $10 trillion

The "Black Budget" receives so much of our spending that it is top secret.

"The United States Department of Defense has a black budget it uses to fund black projects—expenditures it does not want to disclose publicly. The annual cost of the United States Department of Defense black budget was estimated at $30 billion in 2008,[1] but was increased to an estimated $50 billion in 2009.[2]

A black budget article by the Washington Post, based on information given by Edward Snowden, detailed how the US allocated $52.8 billion in 2012 for the black budget.[3]"

"Your father is probably not being intentionally insensitive so much as misinformed and acting on an obsolete worldview. The Baby Boomers grew up when the U.S. had a very strong manufacturing base, entry level wages were high, most jobs offered benefits and pensions, and plenty of work was available for those who wished to work. It was a time when a single, non-professional member of the workforce could support his or her family and when (for at least those of caucasian ethnicity of that generation) being a layabout or hippie was a choice, not a result of circumstance.
Also, importantly, this was a time when we still funded mental health facilities rather than turning our mentally ill out onto the streets to let them fend for themselves.
As a consequence, his and his generation's perceptions were shaped by that landscape. He probably has no direct experience with the sort of desperation people (particularly young people today) find themselves in now. You hear it in the Fox-target-audience rhetoric: "minimum wage jobs aren't meant for people to work in their whole lives," as if anyone would actually choose to work for minimum wage if they could do better for themselves. His generation looks at today's youth and sees people with college degrees, crippling debt, and no good employment prospects and they just can't understand.
To believe that it's because we failed them as a society would require a fundamental realignment in their worldview and that's just not something that's not going to happen. It's far easier is to turn this into morality play: "Young people nowadays are lazy. I got where I am on my own, so you should be able to too if you just put forward the effort."
While it may seem insensitive and cruel to those of us who know better and are closer to the kinds of struggles people face today, I honestly don't believe it's deliberately so on his or his generation's part. They just had a different America is all."

i never said i want to reduce military spending, ASSumer. the point of this was to shed light on where our spending goes. a lot of middle class have been turned against the poor as though they are the reason for the middle class suffering. the rich have found a way to make the middle class pay for the poor while avoiding all accountability, thru corporate welfare and loopholes. i just want to show them it's not the poor's fault.

oo
I think the best way for doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.

jb/c defending our country is really the government's biggest priority, shtbird, and all that chart did was make HEW look better by splitting it up
