To keep the baby, to have an abortion, or give the child up for adoption.

This is a tough call as many will have their own beliefs and are very adamant about those beliefs based on ethical or religious grounds. I for one do not feel it is up to me to judge a woman for the decisions she has to make for herself. Too often the men responsible do not accept their responsibility and the women are left to fend for themselves and the baby if they decide to continue the pregnancy to term. Some women are not ready emotionally to deal with having a child which could lead to complications during the pregnancy and afterwards. I could point out other factors, but in truth the final decision should be the woman's because in the end she is the one that has to live with her decision for the rest of her life.

Op, this could end up being a very volatile discussion.

i would say it's both of their choices. it takes two to make a baby.

if the woman keeps the baby, unless they have an agreement, the man would be expected to pay child support.

so thats why i say both have a say. without his sperm there would be no baby.

I do believe that both should have input and a say in the matter, but at the end of the day it is her body, and I do think it should be her final decision, but she should of course take everything that he has to say into consideration.

ultimately it is the womans decision.

there are factors considering if the woman is religeous, or uncapable of carrying the full-term, if she was raped, or life or death between child-mother during delivery.

i do believe if the woman wishes not to keep the child then the man has the right to chime in if she wants to carry it and give it away.

but a 30 second shot gives no right for 9 months of hell to carry life to its birth.

***on a separate note : i do not believe in abortion and as a man im glad i do not have to face that ultimate decision...

I had a 3 minute sexual encounter that resulted in a baby........ I told him never saw him again I gave him the option.....

As a woman I get the choice if im capable of raising this child a man gets to live with whatever choice I make as a woman..... Is that fair?

It was my struggle my failure to use proper birth control why should he pay the price for my mistake?
Jmo

as a single mother going thru a divorce I struggled with my options and cried alot my dr. And ex husband thought I should abort
I am pro life so for me to even consider that option you know I was in a very low place...... I felt so much shame

I had her totally on my own nothing sadder then driving yourself home from the hospital with a newborn, but I did it and thankful everyday I had the strength to face my shame and have my beautiful baby girl

You asked for opinions, so I won't bother discussing "the way it is".

If the woman doesn't want the child, but the man does, or vice versa, the default decision should be in favor of the baby living. That also goes if either is just for allowing the baby to be born and putting it up for adoption.

Again, the way I think it should work.

I say its a women choice... i know that is the one option to say however thats how it is... I dont care how much the man wants a baby if the women says she doesnt well then the discussion is over with. And the same goes for the other way if the girl wants the baby she is going to keep it no matter if the man doesnt want it... I was lucky I guess I dont believe in abortions and my kids were all planned....

If the woman chooses to keep it after the man says he wants her to abort, that's fine, but then she should also assume 100% of the financial responsibility.

he does as far as paying to raise the child goes.

im not condoning abortion but i still think it would be up to both of them to decide, especially if the mother to be cant afford to raise the child.

i cannot believe i agree with him but like Flaccid said, if she wants to keep it but the man doesnt, she will have to support the child on her own. that or give it up for adoption.

'Should' doesn't work after the fact.

Read the point again as your 'point' had nothing to do with mine.

BOTH of them made the decision too have sex, therefore BOTH should make the decision. If one takes that choice away from the other THEY are then responsible 100% for the child.

imagine YOU are getting in line to have your soul put into a baby. And you get the choice:

1. You can be BORN to young stupid twits.

2. You can be CONCEIVED by better, but with a 50% chance of being aborted and therefore losing your opportunity for any existence. And your soul dies in the garbage bag. No more going to the back of the line.

Which will you choose ?

That is easy for you to say. Everyone men/women take rape emotionally different. You can say I would put the baby for adoption if I were raped until it happens. So to me that would not be a plausable way to say what should be done about a rape that results in a pregnancy.

I was just saying that it's an option I agree with. Because I do not believe in abortion I am obviously not going to say to do that. But adoption is always an option and one I agree with.

Agreed. Ill go a step further though. If a woman doesn't want the child and the man does, I believe by law she should have to carry the child full term and pay him child support.

I realize this is NOT a popular opinion but I had a friend bout 14 years ago that wanted his kid who wound up getting aborted. He's never really been the same. Especially after he got married later and had a son (with someone else).

I believe in paying child support and locking up guys that don't take care of business. But I don't think women get to be equally irresponsible by having an abortion if its not agreed upon.

Okay everyone is debating wether they want a baby or not who should be financially responsible or whatever. But okay let's assume for a second that say the man wants to abort and the woman can't bring herself to do it. She takes financial responsibility, what of the kid? What if the kid grows up and wants to know their father? What if the man matures realizes he has a child and wants to get to know them? Is it fair that he should reap the benefits of a child in his life later on after a majority of the work is done? Is it fair to the child to keep them from the father because they didn't do the work?

-a child in the womb is innocent, never did anything wrong, can be aborted legally,

-however some that were born, grew to adulthood, are a mistake and a drain on society can't be aborted...

-where's the logic there?

@Edo

i said the man WOULD be expected to pay child support. but i believe this to be true if both parties want the baby.

but many would say that if the man doesnt want the baby and the woman does, the woman has to provide for the child financially and vice versa (if the man wants the baby and the woman doesnt).

im so confused i dont know what to believe anymore.

@Randa

that's a tough question. as the parent, i would feel like he missed out on the best years of our child's life and that he doesnt deserve to enter it now, but it would be our child's choice. i wouldn't deny him/her the opportunity to get to know his/her father. but to me, yes it would be unfair of the father to leave and come back when all the parenting has been done.

i pay child support and lets be clear about this....

my weekly support plus insurance does not compare to rent, electricity, water, cost of living, food, clothing, continual daily support, responsibility, transportation, late night issues/schooling.

so all you men who claim 18 years of support...get out of here ...

as if your $40,000-$60,000 compares to $500,000-$750,000 from your ex and possible step-father doing what you lack...

I believe it's the womens since she is the one that will be carrying the baby for about 9 months and probably be the primary care taker when the baby is born, if the couple plan on keeping it.

I'm just saying it's not black and white. And I'm not sure that anyone can honestly say what they'd do in a situation until they are actually in it. We all know what we think is right, but at the end of the day you don't always know yourself as well as you think you do.

For instance I had one pregnancy scare, and I had always thought if I didn't want the child wasn't in the place to take of it or whatever I would just have an abortion. So simple. Well I thought I was pregnant long enough to consider it and I now know beyond all reasonable doubut I don't have that in me. I would have to have the child, and I'm not so sure I could bring myself to give it up for adoption.

Luckily I was not pregnant and never turned out to be an issue, but at the end of the day it's such a scary situation I just can't judge anyone for whatever choice they make. You have to do what is right for you, other's opinions don't matter. It's just too personal IMHO.

I made a pro life choice with my pregnancy at 39.....and I am happy I did. IF I had been younger and in the same situation, I {{think}} I would have aborted.

Who's should decide? The woman....it's her body and her choice to live with.

Many young men will say,"Don't kill my baby"...but when that baby comes where the hell is HE?

Please....

Why should he pay the price? Because he could have used protection too. It's a two way street, not just one.
