Chilly! Bah humbug! Chilly is 60ish! For the next week we'll be lucky to get much above O! The warm day will be TH at 11! The rest of the week and next week single digits if we're lucky, below zero temps for a HI if we're not.

This is why I say the best way to enjoy MN winter is from the Caribbean!

I'm not sure about where he lives.

I'm a little north of E/w and him...a little higher up in elevation.

It hasn't been 60 around here in a long while...it was about 22 this morning with a high of 34, and that temp didn't happen till about 3 p.m. Next Monday, it will colder than today. I've seen stretches for 10 days some winters, where it didn't get above freezing day or night. A few winters ago...we had a few days where it 5 degree's for a high, lows below zero...the first day of that had a 50 mph "sustained" wind all day long. Back in '93, we had 3 feet of snow fall in 8 hours time. I've seen a few days in the winter where it was colder here than where you are because the front passed thru here quicker.

When I first moved here the global temps were cooler in general, till about 10 years later. Every winter we had have 6 good snow falls on average, a few ice storms. The ponds would freeze over for a couple of months were you could walk on them...and in the mornings, the ground would be frozen several inches deep, almost every day....there would be several times in the winter, especially on Look Out Mtn...where you would be stranded for a few days...because of the snow or ice....till it finally got warm enough to melt.

This without much in the way of snow removal equipment like they have up north. I've lived all over including a year in New England....the only real difference between N.E. and here is...they get more snow and don't a get a few days, where it warms up some, before it gets cold again....they just stay cold for 3 months.

We get enough cold weather here to make tons of snow....the thing is...a front comes towards us...it pushes up relatively warmer air from below...it causes rain....then front passes thru and its cold enough to snow....but the precipitation for that is gone...if there is a low pressure tied to that front and the precip. get wrapped around it and comes back in with the cold air...it will snow.

Its all relative anyway...if you moved here, the couple of winters you won't think are that bad at all...but once you acclimate to here....then they will feel as bad as up there.

The same thing would happen, if I moved to Florida.

Strat...there was no call for storms and tornado possibilities here.

there wasn't even the ingredients for it...and I think the main front should be well below you.

There are clippers coming down about every three days...but not the type to cause that, they just re enforce the cold.

You need to be right on the dividing line between cold and much warmer for the ingredients to be there...even then it has to be just right.

I thought you lived in North Georgia.

There has been incidents of out of sinc weather always. Been frost in my state every month in history except July and August. I went through a time in farmhouse where it was zero highs and minus 35 for two weeks. DONT want to see that again!!
What gets me now is how the news treats us all like babies and idiots. It is cold out so wear your mittens, and hat and scarf. And even shows a cartoon drawing of what and wear. Give me a break! If there is a chance in hell of a storm or heat or whatever, they broadcast an alert day. I guess that saves the lazy a** news people from actually getting off the AP/UPI feed and going out and about to gather news. I switch between 4 or so news reports. Same stuff, just different times in show.
I think at my age I can tell if I walk outside and get wet or cold or hot, what to do about it!
Everyone wants to be the National Enquirer now...breaking news! We will have...WEATHER!
