I dropped a valve thru a piston, and need a piston, I have a spare set of heads. I also need a full gasket kit. The compression was nominal, except now number 4 cylinder has a small gouge in it. Do you think I should polish it out?

I also didn't stipulate this is a 1965 GMC 1 1/2 ton truck, but they put the identical engine in pickups, and even marketed them as irragation pump engines also because of their dependability, and longevity. None the less I still need parts badly, any body have any ideas besides scrapping it?

this is true ... you tell someone you have a 305 and they go "pshaw no big deal" ... and then you say "V6" and then they look at you VERY funny, unless they happen to know of it ... which many don't ... especially in my generation ...

I even had a "certified" auto tech tell me they don't exist, GM only made v-8s in a 305 which I directed him to 6066GMCguy site, by the way you can get some info there if you like, all the specs for all those engines are there.Even the v-12's they made out of the two 305's and 351's cool huh, Dodge and Ford doesn't have nothing over GMC they made them years ago. Imagine a 702 cu inch v-12 WOW is all I got to say!

I had not heard of a V6 305 either. Did some looking and found a whole bunch of stuff about that engine family including the V12. Two 305's cast together. Hope you find the parts you need.

If you have it torn down--why not just redo everything and have yourself a new motor. there are after market suppliers advertising older GM parts--in HEMMINGS MOTOR magazine. Or serch the internet for suppliers. Good luck!!

CLASSIC PARTS of AMERICA has the parts and info on the V6 which was a 6 year run for GM PICK UPS. Search it!! Good luck!! By the way---if you go thru the troule to just polish it out--and it does NOT solve your problem--you have wasted a lot of time and effort. Maybe you have that time--but I sure don't. I still think a total rebuild would be more satisfying for you.

The v-12 was two 305's or 351's Bolted together not cast, that is why the water pump boss is as wide as the engine in the front. Classic I will try decent of you to say so. I have it torn down to the block and saw the gouge it is aboubt 1/4 inch long and perhaps a 1/16 inch deep, I think maybe if I polish out the ridge and hone all the cylinders I will get compression, with standard rings, but the gouge is diagonal and may leak so I will let a machinist look at it when I get the chance, one that is not influenced by the fast buck (hard to find). They tried to make a diesel out of these too, but didn't have the impact resistant bottom end, bosses were too light, should of been heavier. Any more assistance finding parts would be grand of you all.

Not to argue and I haven't seen one but this is what I read.

The 702-cubic-inch (11.5 L) V12 "Twin Six" was offered in United States GMC commercial trucks, and as a special order option in Canada. It was often mistaken as two V6 engines welded together but in fact was a single casting.[1] It used four separate exhaust manifolds, two separate carburetors, two separate distributor caps driven off of a single distributor drive,[1] and other parts from the 351. 56 major parts are interchangeable between the Twin-Six and the other GMC V-6 engines to provide greater parts availability and standardization. It produced 250 net SAE horsepower (190 kW). Torque was 585 lb·ft (793 N·m).

I didn't know that there were any V12's made in America after the 30's so this was interesting

Never saw the 702, did see a 610 it was two bolted together 305's and was used for as irrigation pump engine, but they also put them in dump trucks, and twisted the drive shaft in half at the splines. Horsepower then was not rated the same as today, different grade of measurement. But WOW what torque. I know, I helped pull down a wall at a demolition site of a Pepsi plant here in Fayetteville, I was cutting and dropping the steel, and the demo contractor popped his loader front tire, and had to have the wall down before he could go home, because the county inspector considered it a danger to the public, so I hooked to it and put it in granny gear, and bounced off it twice, and the third time it come down. Then I parked in my drive which is downhill and th ex said at supper there goes your welder, and BOOM it hit he tree in the backyard, and shore nuff the driveshaft was broke at the spline, it was a wonder I made it to the house....lol all that info on v-12's is at 6066gmcguy site with all the specs too...enjoy!

Ijust went to the 6066gmcguy.org and it does not mention the 610 at all it must of been a local creation, but I did see one for a irrigation pump, and one in a dump truck, so maybe I'm talking through my hat, but it would not be so bad if I didn't braze the block together on the dumptruck rear half at the lifter bank where it cracked from being froze without proper anti freeze. Arc brazed it with a carbon arc rod and high silicon bronze rods, after heating it with a rose bud to 400 degrees.Maybe the heat got to me...lol or he had it built for him???????

Actually we had technicians I beleive that worked at Edmac GMC on Dunn road that built them, so far as the scuttlebutt goes. But a 702 cu.inch monster WOW, and I would bring my lunch to hear it run for a while.

This is all very entertaining, but I still need parts for the 305 v-6 like a piston will due for now.
